Device Lifecycle Monitoring

Mobile application used to monitor status of IIOT devices in Yokogawa client plants.

After

The Problem

What we tried to solve

  • Yokogawa is a Japanese MNC specializing in electronic instrumentation. Our clients are huge plants. They buy devices from us in bulks and store them in warehouses.
  • Whenever a device is faulty they just replace it with a device from the warehouse.
  • For plants, functionality of these devices are so critical that a day or two of malfunctioning of a device might cause millions of dollars loss in output.
  • Unless the engineers are physically present in the plant there was no way for them to understand the status of the plants working and this in a critical industry like oil refining, was very frustuating.

Users

Who we designed this for

Our primary personas included Maintenance Engineers who maintains all devices in a plant. The secondary personas were warehouse engineers who oversees things happening in a warehouse so that they could plan accordingly.

Mirio Chan

Maintenance engineers

Mirio is an experienced maintenance guy in his fifties. He has been working in the plant for more than 20 years. He is well accustomed with the general operations in the plant and knows well the procedure to follow in case of device maintenance. He manually does the routine checks and paper works to update his superiors on the device cycle. He is satisfied with his current routine but knows it is somewhat time consuming. He is a bit reluctant to adopt new technologies but he is concerned how the new recruits post his retirement would cope up with the current system.

Michael Storm

Warehouse engineer

Michael is an enthusiastic warehouse manager/engineer in his thirties. He is in charge of all the procurements and registrations of the assets in warehouse. Currently the work is done manually and he spends a lot of time registering devices. Whenever there is a need for replacing a device maintenance engineer notifies him and he has to go through the documents manually to find a suitable substitute. In case a substitute is not found from warehouse he has to manually do all the paper works for procurement. He is excited about the
